Artist's Statement

ART is the combination of paintings, poetry and music- the expressing of feelings and emotions in strong colors and vivid motion. -David Art Sigurdsson

In all my works I like to reflect on nature. Mother nature is an amazing masterpiece in itself, with plenty of colors and moods for every season. The same goes for human nature with all its emotions, and I find that I need to establish balance between the two in order to have harmony in my existence.

I like to emphasize my relationship with my native homeland and different countries that I have visited, and how my travels are reflected in my work as well as in my personality. I also wish to share the close connection that I experience between different forms of art, as both poetry and music are essential to me and my paintings.

My goal is to be able to communicate to my audience the essence of myself as ART - an artist who wants to express feelings and emotions in strong colors and vivid motion.

Lava
Type Oil on canvas 11 .75 x 15.75 inch (30 x 40 cm)

This painting is made with real lava rocks. I wanted to create a real feel and presence to the work, making it a one of a kind. I find myself drawn to the vast lava fields of Iceland, as are most Icelandic painters at one time or another. There is an endless source of shapes and images in the lava fields and a spirit that makes painting it so much fun. I find it fascinating that there can be so much beauty and warmth in such a rugged and hostile environment.
